Motivation you need.
In young adulthood you have probably heard the “Oh, you have time.” when venting to someone older about how you are unsure in what you want to do in life. I have come to the realization that you have to be careful who is giving you that advice. The people I typically hear it from have been the ones who are years older than, me still waiting to go and chase their dreams.
While we do live in a society of instant gratification and things will take time...why wait? Sure, you may not know exactly what you want to do but, you do know what you like to do, right? That’s the key right there. Les Brown said something that has stuck with me for a while now. He stated how it’s not necessarily always about finding your passion but finding something and working towards it passionately.
We all get so entrapped in this thought process that we have to pinpoint exactly what we love to do and until then we must just wait around until it appears. The things that we love to do are the ones that we ignore and never act on. It’s difficult for us to fathom that those hobbies could be profitable because we just do them for fun on the weekends. There is so much stress on finding your dream job and making sure that it’s something you love while looking in all the wrong places. Most of the twenty somethings I know are searching for the perfect entry level job, in a corporate office even though in college they loved to make music, dance or paint. There is absolutely nothing wrong with climbing the corporate ladder if that's what you feel called to do. However, the only time when it’s wrong is when you are throwing away your soul to do it.
The time is now to make your wildest dreams come true. It’s like we all know that our time is not infinite, but we wait until tomorrow or the next day to go after what we want. Complaining at the water cooler 20 years from now at your okay corporate job about how you had dreams of being a fashion designer, will not make you feel good. We don't have tomorrow to get what we want. We have today.
Yes, being young you may have a little longer to decide exactly what you want to do but, why not start working on the foundation now? Why not get started by doing things that you like in hopes that it’ll bring you to where you desire to be? Life is a jumbled path of obstacles, fears, and bliss. It won’t be easy but, it’s up to you to get out of your head and go after it.
You want to be a millionaire? How is spending majority of your twenties scrolling away aimlessly on social media going to help you get there?
I am writing this from a point of “I literally have no idea what the hell I want to do in my life but I am going to do something.” So I get that it’s hard but it’s not impossible. I have friends who are out living their best life right now because regardless of the fear and being uncomfortable, they valued being happy more. I am telling you, like I tell myself everyday, get to it and get it done. Don’t settle for a thing in this lifetime. It is said that if you can think it, you can do it.
